What age is Lindo Phonics suitable for?

Lindo Phonics is designed for children aged 4-7 who are learning to read through systematic phonics. It works alongside any school phonics programme, from the very first sounds all the way through to confident, fluent reading.
How does the story match my child's reading level?

When you create a story you select your child's current phonics phase and book band - matching the levels used in UK schools. Our AI then writes a story using only the sounds and words your child has already been taught, so they can decode every word themselves without guessing.
Which phonics schemes does Lindo Phonics match?

Eight of them: Little Wandle, Read Write Inc, Sounds-Write, Jolly Phonics, Letters and Sounds, Essential Letters and Sounds, Pearson Bug Club and Twinkl Phonics. You choose your child's scheme and their current level when you make a book, and the story is built only from the sounds that level has already covered. If you are not sure which one your child's school uses, their reading record or their teacher will know.
Do I need to know anything about phonics to use it?

Not at all. Just check your child's reading book or ask their teacher which phonics phase or book band they're on, then select it from the list. We handle the rest - every story is automatically built around the right sounds for that level.
How long does it take to create a story?

Usually under two minutes from pressing the button to a fully illustrated, ready-to-read personalised book. You choose a name, a setting, and a reading level - the AI writes the story, generates the illustrations, and it's ready to read on any device.
Can I create more than one story?

Yes - as many as you like. Every story is unique: a different adventure, a different setting, a different set of illustrations. You can create one every night if you want, and each one will keep your child reading and practising the sounds they need.
Are the stories written by AI?

Yes, and we would rather say so plainly. Every story and every illustration is generated by AI, built around the phonics level you choose so your child can decode the words themselves. No person reads a story before you do - so if anything ever comes out wrong, odd or just not good enough, email

How much does Lindo Phonics cost?

Your first book is free and needs no card. After that it is £5.99 a month, or £3.99 a month paid yearly (£47.88), both with unlimited books. There is also a one-off £79 lifetime option, with a fair-use limit of 30 books a month.

What information do you collect about my child?

A first name, the sounds they are working on, and whether to draw a boy or a girl. No surname, no date of birth, no photograph and no school. Ask us at any time and we will delete all of it.
What we do with your child's data.
Does this replace my child's school reading book?

No, and it is not meant to. The book their teacher sends home should always come first. Lindo Phonics is extra practice on the same sounds, in a story your child actually wants to pick up - which is usually the difference between ten minutes of reading and ten minutes of arguing.
Can my child have the story read aloud?

Yes. Every book comes with optional read-aloud narration, so a child who is stuck on a word can hear it once and then have a go themselves rather than waiting for you to be free.
Can I print a book or save it as a PDF?

Yes. From the reading screen you can save any book as a PDF in two layouts - a mobile one for reading on a phone, and a book one laid out as facing pages. Once it is downloaded it is yours to keep, print or read with no connection.
Can I use one account for more than one child?

Yes. You enter a name and a level each time you make a book, so one account covers every child in the house - each at whatever level they are actually on, which is rarely the same one.
What if a story comes out at the wrong level?

Make another one at a different level - on a paid plan there is no limit, so it costs you nothing but the two minutes. If a book is wrong in a way that changing the level would not fix, email

Can I cancel at any time?

Yes. Monthly and yearly plans can be cancelled whenever you like from your account, and you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for. Books you have already made stay yours.
